Zach's B-day

I've been such a slacker with this blog lately. *sigh*

Well, Zach is now in his 31st year- meaning he has achieved age 30.
He warned me beforehand not to do anything surprise-ish or big. (Yet another way that he and I are alike)
So, we just had a small, but festive birthday party at home.
Lincoln was soooooo excited. He's beginning to understand the concept of Birthdays and presents.
When he woke up from his nap there were balloons on the table, a banner, birthday cake, and presents waiting for our little family party.
You'd think it was his birthday--and in all reality all that fluff was really more for him than it was for Zach. Kids can make every event so much more fun and I'm so glad the two of us fuddy-duddies have children now to bring some excitement into our world.

Lincoln helped Zach open his presents and blow out the candles on his bike-wheel cake (the only cakes I can do come in 9" circles or 9x13 rectangles and require minimal decorating) after we finished Zach's birthday dinner of grilled chicken alfredo.

It was a nice, quiet, festive birthday!

Halloween 2009

Happy Halloween!

We kept our tradition of heading out to my parents for Halloween.
They have the perfect neighborhood for trick-or-treating. It's the perfect distance for little legs and it's in an oval so you start and end at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Plus, almost everyone is home and are people I know so I feel safe there.
Lincoln did great-he'd been trained by me weeks before and he knew just what to do.
He handled it all great, except for one little incident of being frightened by Super Mario.
Gwen also handled it great- she just stayed in her stroller and looked cute.
One highlight of the evening occurred when Zach was distracted admiring a washing machine costume and tripped over a step. He ended up doing a neat little back-tuck roll. It was very graceful.

I have to laugh at one of the pictures of Lincoln in his costume.
He and Gwen were the tortoise and the hare. The night before Halloween, I took them both to a Halloween themed birthday party and one of the party favors was a light-up sword. I figured it would work great for trick-or-treating in keeping him visible and he loves the thing so I knew he wouldn't let it go. Well, when I had him all dressed and ready to go my sister asked if he was a teenage-mutant ninja turtle. Well...that wasn't the intent-but you see the outcome.

October- In Words

So.....
Long time no see.

Lately, for the past month-and-a-half, I've been feeling REALLY busy. Every morning I've been waking up early to get a jump start on the day and have been going to bed later.

The other day, I paused to evaluate why I've been so delinquent in posting a blog, and my list of accomplishments seems a bit unimpressive.

October was a month for:

LOTS and LOTS of work on our backyard, and there's still more to come. Sorry, there will be no pictures posted until it is completed. Right now, it's pretty depressing looking, but not nearly as depressing looking as it was a month ago. But, it's one of those things that has to get worse before it gets better. Zach has been getting some major muscles with all the tree-extracting and digging he's been doing. I have to brag-but he took out our mature Ash tree ALL-BY-HIMSELF! (The tree was dead and killing our yard-so don't mourn too long for it) When I do finally post pictures- you'll see what a chore that really was.

Halloween/Costume parties for families and the kids.

My first ever group piano lesson, lots of fun and more work-but still worth it.

Costume making

Lots more sewing-thanks to a good friend who allows me to come and mooch off of her extensive sewing knowledge for free every week. Karina is truly a Christ-like individual.

Applesauce making--thanks to Zach's parents and their incredible apple haul from Richfield. I still shake my head in wonder and a little confusion as to how we ended up with more jars of applesauce than they and they are the ones who picked them. Talk about Christ-like attributes.

Oh, and being a mom to two little'uns.

Would you believe that that's all I've been up to this month and currently I have NO pictures to show for it. Reason one is that our camera is currently MIA. Reason two is that I am a horrible photographer in 2 senses, but more particularly in the sense that I never remember to take pictures.

Good thing this blog is now private and I therefore get fewer visitors. Otherwise I'd be even more embarrassed.

And now I realize that I'm already almost half-way through November! Looks like a pattern.
