Dear Santa, From Lincoln (In His Own Words)

Dear Santa,
My name is Lincoln D Hills.  I've been good.  I haven't been naughty very often, I think.  I cleaned up the room and I helped Gwen clean up the room too.  I've been good in Sunbeams.  I have sat down in my chair and I've been really quiet.  I want a flashlight.  Ned wants maybe a baby toy.  Thanks for when you give my flashlight to me.

Yours Truly,
Lincoln D Hills

What's New

A general post has been needing to be written for a LONG time, so here it is.

Ned:  Is a mega-cute baby.  I absolutely love cuddling with him!  He's a momma's boy for sure, but is more willing than the othere two were to let other adults hold him.
He's taking more time than I would like to begin crawling, he seems to want to skip the crawling and go straight to walking.  Every time I put him down to sit, he stands on his feet, locks his knees and arches his back so I have to press on his waist to get him to sit down at all.  He'd be perfectly happy if all I did all day was to hold his hands and let him walk all over the house.   I just try to remind myself that once he starts crawling, it means a lot more work for me. I must admit though, I love having him as my baby and am reluctant to lose him to toddlerhood.  With each new baby I realize how short babyhood really is.  We love our baby boy!

Gwen: Is as cute as ever!  She is beginning to show more ocd tendencies;)  She loves to sort things.  I often find her sorting her fruit snacks, rocks, game pieces, etc.  She loves having the Christmas tree up as she loves to take off the ornaments and put them back on over and over again.  I have the kids put away the silverware for me and she loves to do it.  When she does it, she's very particular and careful about doing it.  She stacks all the silverware in very neat piles.
Gwen is also a TV-lover, even though we don't have TV- she loves to watch any show she can on the computer.  It's a very good thing we don't have a TV.  She's such a sweetie and we're so glad she's in our family!

Lincoln:  Is growing up too fast!  I've been working with him to get him ready for Kindergarten next year and he is really doing well!  He is so excited to go to Kindergarten, which is saying a lot for my shy little boy.  I love to see him in classroom-like settings.  I just watch him and think-- "oh he's going to be that student!" (That's just the nerdy-teacher in me)  He's the quiet, observant student.  But don't be fooled, he's not totally meek.  He has a little bit of a quiet stubborn-independent streak.  He is not a TV-addict like Gwen, but he enjoys it more than he used to.  He continues to be his father's shadow, loves being outside, in the garage and going on 4-wheeler rides.  He's an excellent oldest child/example.  We're so happy to have our Lincoln!

Nikki:  Am loving being able to stay home with my children each day to raise them.  I think the more I do this job, the more I enjoy it--even if it gets more and more challenging with each new child.  I still teach piano and try to fit in a little sewing and reading here and there, which isn't very much.  Pretty much I mostly do mom-stuff, but that's okay (most of the time ;)  As my kids approach the elementary age I get more and more excited.  I know better how to work with kids those ages.  I'm a little obsessed with the fact that Lincoln is going to Kindergarten next year (Zach can vouch for that).  Life is good for us.

Zach:  Keeps busy with work, his calling, honey-do lists, and cycling.  Just got his first cell-phone ever and is a decided apple-fan. He's particularly excited about UNLV basketball this season and even has me following it a little bit.  Often he'll follow a UNLV game (on game tracker) with his phone close by so he can text our bishop--another avid UNLV fan, with his commentary throughout the game.  We love our daddy/husband!
P.S. this picture of him was at our first annual General Conference weekend backyard campout.  Zach camped outside with Lincoln and Gwen after roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. So fun!  We tried to re-create the event for his birthday, but were rained-out.  Oh, well.

Family Photos

Camrin and Brandon again showed their generosity and skills by taking family photos of all the Hills' family members.  And, they were amazingly quick about it - (a huge plus with so many little kids!)
These were taken during our Hills' family reunion in Mesquite.
Here's a few of our family.
Zach age 31 Nikki age 30
Lincoln Age 4
Gwen age 2
Ned age 9 months
Our family just keeps growing and growing!  Life is good.
Thanks Camrin and Brandon!

Zach's Birthday

Zach's birthday came in two stages this year: The day he received his birthday present ( his very first cell phone which happened to be the new iphone) and his actual birthday.
When his cell phone came, Lincoln was perhaps just as excited as his dad.
He was all hot and sweaty from having just barely returned from a bike ride home from work.

His birthday cake was his usual requested carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.  Lincoln was again skeptical about a dessert with vegetables and cheese in it, but he tried it and discovered he did in fact like it!

Happy Halloween!

Can you guess what they are for Halloween? Only one other person could-- and he was 3 years old. My brother, confused, asked if Lincoln was a cow milker. Zach's response--No, but Ned's a Nikki milker--Ha! The milk pail was simply Lincoln's candy catcher.

The kids were supposed to be Team Umizoomi (a favorite kid's cartoon all about Math). It was actually their idea, I just tried to make it happen.

This year we tried some new events out. We had a ward trunk-or-treat. Believe it or not, it was our first. Then on Halloween night, we actually went trick-or-treating in our own neighborhood. It was a lot of fun. Lincoln and Gwen thoroughly enjoyed themselves and everyone thought they all were amazingly cute- even if they didn't know what they were supposed to be.

Once again--Holidays are Oh so much better when one has kids to celebrate them with.

Hills Family Reunion '11

October 22nd held the family reunion for the Hills family.  It was a one-day, well-organized event.  The day was packed and fun!
First thing in the morning we took family pictures.  Then we headed over to the bowling alley where 6 lanes and food were waiting for us.  Everyone had a great time!  Lincoln and Gwen enjoyed bowling for the first time.
After bowling, we went swimming in a frigid pool.  I'm going off of heresay since I didn't get in (I stayed out with Ned).  After that ,we went back to mom and dad Hills' place for a bon fire/bbq.
Some of the unplanned, but very fun events included lots of talking/catching up, coyote calling, and a walk to the sand dune hill with Uncle Tim and tiki torches.
We all had so much fun and the kids did not want to leave!

Thanks Aunt Erin and Mom Hills for the great day!

Newport Coast

The first full week of October found us in Southern California for our annual Newport Coast trip.  A place we love going to--something made possible by generous parents allowing us to join in on one of their time-shares.  We've had so much fun in the past years that we decided to stay a whole week this time.
This time was also diversified a little with a few well-planned outings, thanks to Zach.
Some of our activities included:
Walking around the villas (first)

Gwen had to copy uncle Eric's pose
What a gorgeous view!
The kids favorite thing to do-swim in the hotel pool!

Bike Rides
This one was along the Pacific Coast Highway

Visting the Tide Pools
Lincoln shadowed his cousin Caleb

Crystal Cove State Park
Found a bunch of these guys
Several Different Days of the Beach (Laguna)
Caleb- so good to them!

My Dad's still a kid
Grandpa taking Lincoln for a ride

Orange County Zoo
This zoo was the perfect size for our family and the perfect price ($1 for the entire family!)
The kids saw goats, bears, snakes, a beaver, ocelot, racoons, and various birds.

Nearby the zoo was a pumpkin patch with a fun hay maze.

The Queen Mary
The two Neds

What a great trip!
