Memorial Weekend

Friday night we headed up to Pine Valley to spend the weekend with family. It was a little cold when we got there, but I didn't mind at all- it's kind of nice to have it a little cool when you're up in the mountains.
Saturday was the big and probably the last Shamo family reunion (at least with the extended family). It was held in Central, Utah which is just down the mountain a little from Pine Valley. The neatest part of the day was listening to the history of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. I have a second cousin who works for the church's history department and has been helping a couple historians research the event for a book that is coming out July 1st. After listening to the history, we went over to the monument and he pointed out where everything took place. There were many lessons to be learned from that event, some of them being: Beware of Pride, listen to your counselors, and wait for direction from the Prophet. I thought I had taken pictures of that, but I guess I didn't- so sorry, no pictures of that.
Then we went back to Pine Valley and played a couple rounds of Apples to Apples- such a fun game!

Sunday, after going to church in the old Pine Valley chapel, we headed down to Logandale to spend time with the Hills' side of the family. When Lincoln's cousin James showed up and Lincoln saw him walking around, Lincoln decided he should walk too and was walking all over the place. He's been walking on and off for about 3 weeks, but it's still not necessarily his main mode of transportation.
We had a great time visiting with family and relaxing in Logandale until we headed home late Monday night.

Hmmm... What side of the Family Does That Come From?

Probably both.

I just love this picture. It makes me smile.
Lincoln is developing such a personality, he gets so excited about things, especially water. He loves the shower and if I give him a bath instead, he'll stand the whole time. I have to make him sit down to rinse his hair out so he doesn't fall over.

Suggestions?

When I was a teacher, I learned some valuable life-long lessons. One of which is that every good teacher steals ideas unashamedly. Whenever I was bored with something I was doing, or something wasn't working- I'd just go ask my colleagues or peek in their room and employ the new idea. Generally speaking, most teachers were more than willing to tell their ideas and were flattered if I used them. When I first started teaching, when I'd see a good idea, I'd think-yeah, but that's their idea. I can't use it because it's their idea. What was I thinking?! Well I got over it.

Now really, I know that's not an lesson that only teachers learn, but it's obviously something I needed to learn.

So, I come to you, viewers of this blog, for ideas- now as a mom.
Lincoln is 11 months old and is starting to not really be into baby food(I mean mashed up stuff)BUT he only has 4 teeth. AND, I feel bad for the poor kid because he eats the same things over and over again,(I feel bad because I grew up in a household where my mom didn't really enjoy cooking unless she was cooking some new dish).

Lincoln currently eats a lot of: sweet potatoes, macaroni & cheese, pears, peaches, bananas, potatoes, carrots, cooked peas, and sometimes I'll make him a crock pot meal of chicken, carrots and potatoes and mash it up. He also eats cheerios, cereal, and those puff things they make for babies that are like flavored cheerios.
So my question to all of you is: what more can I feed him?

I realize that this question is a little silly, but I figure I probably ought to ask these silly questions while I'm still considered a new mom and it's okay to look silly and naive.

A New Post

How uncreative of a title is that? Well, I've been feeling the need to do another post, but have really no subject matter so this is just an update.
We've been really bad about not taking pictures recently, so there won't be much on this blog. Anywhere, Here's what we've been up to:
Zach: almost done with this semester and will subsequently be spending his time working on his thesis. He has also been spending some quality time on his church calling. I think he's doing a great job!
Nikki: just added two new piano students and is trying to remain faithful to piano practice- even when a certain baby likes to bang on the keys at the same time, pull books out of the bookshelf, get into the trash, and (my favorite) pull on the power cords of the computer. And, as always, learning how to be a mom.
Lincoln: See above, weaning himself (he loves bottles- yea!), standing on his own and taking a couple steps- but no real walking yet, giving great hugs (he's a squeezer), and being generally extraordinarily cute!
