The Bed Transition

Lincoln is growing up so much! Last week we decided to take the bed out of the attic and set it up in Lincoln's room, if only because I like to move furniture around every once in a while. I didn't think we'd have Lincoln use the bed so soon, but Zach decided to see if Lincoln would like to try sleeping in it. I was a little surprised that Lincoln wanted to try it because he still loves his crib, but he did so Zach tucked him in in it two nights ago and we put pillows around it on the ground. I was a little worried b/c Lincoln moves around a ton in his sleep. And, sure enough, when I went to check on him early the next morning he was huddled in a corner on the floor, almost under his bed as he had fallen off. I picked him up and put him in his crib and tucked the blankets around him as he contentedly giggled.

That day when I went to put him down for his nap, he again wanted to sleep in his big-boy bed so I decided to let him try it again. Another reservation I have about letting him sleep on that bed is that he can get up any time he wants and since he usually cries a little when I put him down for a nap, I thought he would just get out of his bed now and play, instead of lay down and sleep. But, when I left him in his room for nap time, he cried a little, but didn't leave his bed. Maybe he hasn't quite connected that he has more freedom now. In any case, he again fell off the bed.

That night I figured that after falling out of the bed twice, he might want to sleep in his crib, but no, he wanted to sleep in the twin bed again. He of course, fell off again last night and he's now taking a nap in the twin again and I'll be surprised if he doesn't fall off again. He's just a very active sleeper, I guess. One of these days, he'll figure it out.

Oh another thing, you can see in these pictures of him on his bed the before and after shots of him and his new haircut. I cut it this morning. I'm still learning.

how I found him one morning- he looks pretty comfy!

Gwen's Blessing

We finally blessed Gwen on Sunday. We were fortunate to have a lot of family come and it was a beautiful blessing. I must say that Gwen looked so cute in her blessing dress, even if it wasn't the original blessing dress(she grew out of the original one-which was my blessing dress).

Later that evening we put her in her bouncer, something she's been getting used to, even if she's not quite ready for it yet. Zach took this picture of her and I think it's one of my favorites of her.
Those cheeks are just so massive and rosy!

St. Thomas and Logandale

Last Friday we dropped the kids off with Grandma Hills while we attended the graveside for my visiting teachee's husband's funeral. His graveside was held at the St. Thomas cemetery. St. Thomas is actually a few miles away from the cemetery because it was covered in water when Hoover Dam was built. It's exposed now since the water has receded so much, but years ago, when the dam was built the city was warned that it would be flooded and the cemetery was moved up on a hill next to Overton. This man was born there, but only lived there for the first 4 years of his life. But, since he was born there he and all of his family are buried in the St. Thomas cemetery. It was a pretty cool piece of history to learn about. It was a beautiful service and I'm glad I went. Zach took the day off of work so he could go also and after the service we went to a little restaurant in Overton for date- it's always nice to be able to go on a date with my husband. Then we went back to Zach's parents and went on a little four-wheel ride to round off the beautiful day. Thanks Mom and Dad Hills for watching the kids!
Lincoln has learned how to turn many of the four-wheeler's on. It's amazing how he seems to have come genetically wired to love and understand mechanical things. He just LOVES the four-wheeler-it's such an innate thing for him.

He also had a chance to say hi to the goats and feed the horse.

Spring!

Spring is here(at least for now)so much of my time has been spent outdoors instead of in at the computer.
One thing keeping me outside has been our new garden.
We've decided to put in a square-foot garden to learn a little about it. I usually learn best by doing as is the case, I'm sure, for most gardeners. It's not a very cost-effective way of getting produce, but we figure we're doing it more for the learning experience than to save money. I dug out the rocks and dirt from an existing block box on our patio to put in our garden. I'm a little unsure of how it will turn out because our yard is so small and therefore does not have much space for optimal gardening- but figure it's worth a try. We put in some tomatoes, bell peppers, banana peppers, hot serrano peppers (we'll have to keep Lincoln away from those), cilantro and mint. I'm also planning on putting in potatoes and onions.

Last weekend I spent a beautiful Saturday morning running the six tunnels 5k with some of my side of the family. It was SO fun! I can't remember having that much fun running those races when I was in High School. This course was so easy to run (no hills) and having so many people to run with made the run just fly! At one point it was time to turn around and run back and I couldn't believe it was already half-way over. I actually find myself wishing I was back in Cross Country having a race to run every weekend- weird- I know! I didn't even think I had run all that hard, and was surprised to find myself a little sore for my Monday morning jog. My time was nothing special (you won't see me post it here) it didn't quite rival my HS times, but now I have something to start from. Perhaps next year- if I'm brave enough, I'll sign up for the half-marathon on the same course with my bro and cousin who ran it this time.

Other random updates about us are (just for journaling purposes):
Lincoln is gaining more words in his vocabulary. It's so fun to hear him use new words. The teacher in me likes to notice which consonant and vowel sounds are his favorite to use. He definitely prefers to use the long I sound and the consonant b and t sounds.
Gwen is getting so big. She's looking a ton like Lincoln now with all of her chub. She smiles at me every morning when I wish her good morning. She's so fun!
Zach seems to be really enjoying his classes since they are actually useful. He spends quality time on his homework and enjoys telling me all about it. Even so, we still look forward to him being done-hopefully at the end of this summer.
