Washing the Truck

Yesterday Zach took Lincoln outside after dinner to help him wash out the bed of the truck and get it ready for his campout this weekend while I stayed inside and cleaned up our dinner. As I was washing the dishes I heard some yelling and thought hmmm.... funny, but perhaps Zach's just yelling hello to the neighbors across the street. I decided to investigate anyway and went out front to see what was up. My first observation was that everything in our front yard was wet. I heard Zach on the side of the house coiling up the hose and Lincoln happily jabbering his non-English near him. My next observation came when Zach came around the corner and I noticed he was more than a little wet. You may be able to guess what happened. Hint- hint- Lincoln loves the hose.
Here's Zach's depiction of the story. Zach turned on the hose and sprayed out the bed of his truck so it would be clean and ready for his campout, then left the hose on and placed it at the base of a plant that has been needing some extra water. Lincoln- always an opportunist- picks up the hose and decides to "help" dad wash the truck- never mind that dad is in the line of fire. Unfortunately Zach didn't really want to wash the whole truck, just the bed, but really, how was Lincoln supposed to know that? Zach sees there's no real dry way to get the hose from Lincoln so he decides on the next best thing, turn the water off. So, Zach starts making a wide berth around the front of the yard toward the side to get to the spigot to turn it off. Lincoln, wondering what dad could be doing, turns to watch Zach as he's going and like most toddlers, his hand follows his gaze soaking Zach even more, until Zach finally reaches the spigot, shuts it off and coils up the hose.
I laughed so hard my stomach hurt, especially when I saw the completely innocent look on Lincoln's face. This is just one reason toddlers can be so fun!

That is so funny. I can just see the whole thing in my mind. My boys also love the hose.
