September-October 2012
September and October found us doing/enjoying a multiplicity of different activities. We enjoyed a bit more rain in September and Zach even got a photo of a DOUBLE RAINBOW! Though, only part of one. Our roadways were tried a bit with the abundant rain, but it was fun for a change. It's really not that often that we get rain in the desert.
We attended a free concert of a ward member, Benton Paul and were reminded how much we like his music as well as left wondering why he's not as big as the other artists on the radio yet. I suppose it's who you know! Perhaps it's only a matter of time with him.
Zach satisfied his OCD tendencies and organized his tools. This may seem like an odd thing to post about, but truthfully, I've seen stranger posts. Plus, this is our family journal, so it's ok.
Ned fell deeply in love with the truck, or "gruck" as he calls it. Anytime he sees either Zach or I get in it, he wants in too! It will be a very sad day for all of our children when we get trade it for something else.
Lincoln got to help his Dad revegetate an area by the Las Vegas wash in an event sponsored by Zach's work.
Lincoln adopted a new bike. Zach's co-worker gave it to him to clean out his storage unit. Since it wasn't Christmas or Birthday time and the bike was practically brand new, we told him it was mine, because I didn't have one like everyone else, but because my belly is so big, he could ride it. We couldn't think of any other way to give it to him and didn't want an overly entitled child. Perhaps we're too paranoid? It's much bigger than his red bike and much nicer! He loves to ride! He uses it every weekend on his bike rides with Zach. They always go after Zach's bike ride and they've started going quite far.
The kids still love being read to! Lincoln is learning to read pretty well himself and will read first during our story time. I won't lie or sugar-coat it, he's not a huge fan of reading, but he is progressing, which is saying something. It's pretty hard to teach a reluctant child, but he is getting it. He doesn't really struggle with it too much, as far as I can tell, he just lacks patience with it.
This has been a busy past two months for me. I'm now on the board of the Las Vegas Music Teacher's Association which has me creating and posting/mailing the newsletter regularly. I've also increased the number of piano students in my studio significantly. It all keeps me very busy, and it's all my own fault. I can never say no to people. I acknowledge it, but it's pretty fun too. Sometimes I'm overwhelmed, and other times I'm just enjoying it.
Zach is busy learning a lot from his work. It's nice he gets to do some real civil engineering, but there are some challenges as well. He's also busy with his calling and he still rides his bike regularly.
