Lincoln's 16th Birthday!

Success!!

Bright and early on Lincoln's 16th birthday we headed to the DMV to be the first driving test appointment scheduled that day.  Growing up, Lincoln had always told me that he would get his driver's license on his birthday and he did just that!  He needed an 80 to pass and he earned an 83!  He learned a little more from his test administrator about what he did wrong, but then he was awarded his license.  He (and his parents) were so happy!  Now he can drive himself to work!

Lincoln would much rather drink his calories than eat them so he requested juice for his birthday "cake".

Customary whipped cream in the mouth for birthdays

Lincoln is so low-key.  This kid never requests much.  He wanted "Mountains" or German Pancakes for breakfast and then chicken and rice for dinner.  His birthday gift will be a laptop for the new school year since he will be going to an online dual-enrollment high school for his last two years of High School.

Some things we love about 16-year-old Lincoln!
  • Lincoln is such a fast learner!  When he took his math placement exam for his college math class, he scored somewhat lower than we all wanted.  So, he studied and retook the exam and almost doubled his score, passing a few math classes and placing in a legit college-level math class (Math 127- Pre-Calculus).  He just has to put forth a little bit of effort and he can do so well!
  • Lincoln is a hard worker. He has been holding down a job since late January of this year at a upscale burger/bar joint.  He is often asked to cover shifts for others and seems to be well-liked by his supervisors.  He is working hard to earn for college and possibly a new motorcycle.
  • He is growing up so fast!  We recently left him home alone while we went out of town so he could stay home and work.  He held the fort down very well- though I missed him terribly!
  • He is a gifted speaker.  He is quite regularly asked to speak in church and always does such an amazing job preparing his remarks by himself and then delivering them with confidence.
  • He is such a sweet boy who loves his family!  He's definitely a teenage boy who enjoys his privacy and has his angsty moments, but he also genuinely seems to enjoy his family and his family sure loves him!

The car Lincoln gets to drive: Itso.  It's a 2013 Honda Accord Coupe EXL V6
