Labor Day at the Lake

We went to the lake, finally, for Labor Day. It felt so good to be out doing something recreational. Typically we would stay away from Lake Mead on Labor Day, but this year, we decided to go anyway. We arrived at the lake about 6am, just before the sun rose up over the mountain. The water was perfect and it felt great out there. Since the lake level has dropped so much, there aren't very many places to beach anymore so we headed over to Kingman wash and set up camp on the mud.

The boys set up the cool water trampoline and slide that Eric had purchase earlier this season at a garage sale and everyone had a blast on that. Lincoln handled his first lake trip very well. He seemed to enjoy the change of scenery and the chance to be outdoors. We kept him cool by dipping him in the water every once in a while. He loved that!
All day we were very careful about keeping sunblock on him and keeping him in the shade. I tried to take care of myself and Zach pretty well too, but apparently I didn't do as good of a job of taking care of myself considering that I burned my back, shoulders, and legs. The worst part of that was that last night I spent much of the night fighting the urge to scratch my back, rather than sleeping. I had a not-so-fun allergic reaction to the sun- something I'd never ever experienced before. The only other time I have itched so much was when I was about 3 or 4 and I had the chickenpox. I ended up finally falling asleep at around 2am by using some breathing techniques I had learned for labor. Even so, it felt great to get out on the lake-something I hadn't done for two years!
