Spring!

Spring is here(at least for now)so much of my time has been spent outdoors instead of in at the computer.
One thing keeping me outside has been our new garden.
We've decided to put in a square-foot garden to learn a little about it. I usually learn best by doing as is the case, I'm sure, for most gardeners. It's not a very cost-effective way of getting produce, but we figure we're doing it more for the learning experience than to save money. I dug out the rocks and dirt from an existing block box on our patio to put in our garden. I'm a little unsure of how it will turn out because our yard is so small and therefore does not have much space for optimal gardening- but figure it's worth a try. We put in some tomatoes, bell peppers, banana peppers, hot serrano peppers (we'll have to keep Lincoln away from those), cilantro and mint. I'm also planning on putting in potatoes and onions.

Last weekend I spent a beautiful Saturday morning running the six tunnels 5k with some of my side of the family. It was SO fun! I can't remember having that much fun running those races when I was in High School. This course was so easy to run (no hills) and having so many people to run with made the run just fly! At one point it was time to turn around and run back and I couldn't believe it was already half-way over. I actually find myself wishing I was back in Cross Country having a race to run every weekend- weird- I know! I didn't even think I had run all that hard, and was surprised to find myself a little sore for my Monday morning jog. My time was nothing special (you won't see me post it here) it didn't quite rival my HS times, but now I have something to start from. Perhaps next year- if I'm brave enough, I'll sign up for the half-marathon on the same course with my bro and cousin who ran it this time.

Other random updates about us are (just for journaling purposes):
Lincoln is gaining more words in his vocabulary. It's so fun to hear him use new words. The teacher in me likes to notice which consonant and vowel sounds are his favorite to use. He definitely prefers to use the long I sound and the consonant b and t sounds.
Gwen is getting so big. She's looking a ton like Lincoln now with all of her chub. She smiles at me every morning when I wish her good morning. She's so fun!
Zach seems to be really enjoying his classes since they are actually useful. He spends quality time on his homework and enjoys telling me all about it. Even so, we still look forward to him being done-hopefully at the end of this summer.

We are so excited to get our garden started too! I'll be anxious to know how you like square feet gardening. That is exciting that you got to run a 5k. I know that you love running. And your two kids are so cute together. They do look a lot alike.

Oh, look at your darling little kids! Lincoln looks so big in the picture next to your new garden! And Gwen is getting chunkier, it is so cute! That is so neat that you guys are trying out a garden. What a great thing to learn, and it is probably fun too. I hope it goes well. I also love the picture of the kids in their "car" box. It reminds me of one of your favorite books of the kids playing in their box. Very cute!

I love trying new things with gardening even though I really don't have any idea what I am doing.

Your baby is HOW old and you are running?! Great job!
