My First Sunbeam!

Lincoln's a Sunbeam!
We were a little nervous about the transition since he had such a hard time with Nursery anyway. But, he was so excited about going and we'd been preparing him for weeks in hopes that everything would go smoothly that lo and behold,it did! On the last Sunday of December, Lincoln kept talking about how this was his last time in nursery and soon he'd be a Sunbeam. At the end of church, he ran up and gave his Nursery leaders one last hug and walked out the door gushing about Sunbeams next week.
I was concerned he'd be hanging on me the whole time in Primary and with the new calling and transition to the new year, that was something that would make my calling extremely difficult. We talked to him all week about Sunbeams and how since he'd be a big boy, he'd have to be able to sit in his chair and not get up to follow mommy. How he'd have to raise his hand if he wanted to speak, etc.
That first Sunday came, Zach took him into the Primary room while I played postlude on the Organ so I wasn't able to be there at first, but when I came in, there he was sitting with his arms folded on his very own chair. He sat there the whole time and just watched everything that went on in Sharing time. He didn't participate at all, but that's okay-he was incredibly reverent. At one point, there were a couple seats vacant between him and the next child and the teacher asked him if he wanted to scoot over. He just looked at her, but didn't say a word-or move. I guess he took it pretty seriously when we told him to stay in his seat.
At another time, there was a little girl in his class having a really difficult time with the transition and while she was crying on the floor he just looked at her with the obvious-"what's wrong with her?"- look in his eyes. One of my counselors pointed that out to me as she was cracking up. We were so proud of him and every Sunday, he appears excited to be going to Sunbeams!
We know this behavior isn't fail-safe, but we're pretty proud of his transition. He's a good boy and we love him so much!
And Gwen? She's doing great in Nursery all by herself- but truthfully, we weren't too worried about her-she's such an independent little thing. Anytime she sees one of the kids from nursery, she'll say, "there's so-and-so, I like so-and-so." She's also been a blessing to us in that regard!

It's always strange to have kid move up to Sunbeams for me. It's like they aren't my babies anymore. I'm glad the transition is going well for him.

Good luck as the Primary President. You will do an awesome job!
