Building Testimonies

As a parent that loves the gospel and truly wants to have her children know that Heavenly Father is real and really does love them, I am always looking for ways to teach my children to act- as Elder Bednar instructed us to,  and gain their testimonies through those actions.  I'm always looking for teaching opportunities.  I also always wonder if it's actually sinking in.   Lately, Gwen has been showing me she's been paying attention.

On this particular day, Zach actually observed this progression of events.  Gwen had lost her Junie B. Jones library book and wanted to read it before she went to bed.

She decided to say a prayer to ask for help in finding it.
Then she found it and decided to say a prayer thanking Heavenly Father for his help.
Here, she's happily reading her book.

I witnessed a similar occurrence when my children decided they wanted to have a lemonade stand one day.  I decided to allow them to have it, and sat on the porch watching them from a distance.  They stood around with their signs and lemonade for a while, but no one came by.  Eventually one person drove by, but didn't stop.  After a while, someone drove by, stopped, backed up and bought some, giving them an extra tip.  It was so nice of them!  As soon as they had left, Gwen said--"They came because I said a prayer asking Heavenly Father to send someone to buy some lemonade!"  No one else came after that, but my little girl's testimony reaped the greatest dividends.  I fully recognize that these are Heavenly Father's children on loan to me and Zach for a while and he's anxious to build their (and our) testimonies and character.
