This was an eventful beginning of the school year. It was my first year back in the classroom, teaching 5th grade at the school all of my kids have gone to. The night before school started, we were taking a family walk around the neighborhood with Ned and Nyle on rollerblades when Nyle slipped and broke his arm just above the wrist. I was already stressed about starting as a new teacher and now worried about my son, who may or may not have broken his arm.
Poor Nyle was in pain most of that night and then the next morning Zach and I determined that Zach would have to take some work off to take Nyle to urgent care, while I started my first day of school. The urgent care took an X-ray and the doctor didn't think it was broken so she sent Nyle away with nothing but the wrist brace we already had him in. The next day, after the X-ray was read, Zach received a phone call asking him to bring Nyle in right away so Zach pulled him out of school on the 2nd day of school. They learned that it was broken and put a temporary cast on. Friday of that week, he was pulled out of school yet again to get his more stable cast. What a whirlwind of a first week and I felt horribly guilty because I wasn't able to take him to all of these appointments! Thank goodness Zach was!
A silver lining moment was when we learned that this was a little bit of a testimony builder for Nyle. He told us that on the first night he broke his arm, he was in so much pain he couldn't sleep. So he said a prayer and reported that shortly after that, he was able to fall asleep. I love little moments like that when my kids have a chance to try out their Faith in a loving Heavenly Father and He responds to them.
