Ned's 12th Birthday!

Ned turned 12!  He requested his customary cinnamon rolls for his "birthday cake" and continues to be the sweet boy he has always been.  He had a very hard time telling us what he wanted for his birthday.  This is probably because whenever he wants something, he decides to go sell a bunch of golf balls and then just buy what he wants himself.  Last fall he purchased both a cell phone and an Apple watch to accompany it. As a result, he was finally able to tell us that he wanted a chess set for his birthday, so that's what he got!
Some things we love about 12-year-old Ned:
  • Ned is doing so well in Middle school- so much better than I could have hoped.  To be clear, he goes to a school that many consider very rough.  Most of the kids in our ward do not attend it, but with me going back to work, our options are extremely limited.  Ned has been so positive about it all--never once complaining about his school, in fact, he only ever praises it.  What middle schooler does that?!
  • Ned is still a great leader to his two younger brothers.  They continue to look up to him and follow his lead.
  • Ned's also a great younger brother.  I attribute Gwen's smooth transition back into Middle School from online school to the fact that she has Ned as her buddy every day.  They're the type of siblings that enjoy hanging out with each other, and don't act embarrassed to see each other at school.
  • Ned has been working so hard on all his school work.  He's been making an effort to meet his English teachers' demands and has grown so much as a writer.   He puts forth the same effort in all of his classes and we have already heard from several of his middle school teachers that they just love and appreciate him.  He's a real standout student.
  • Ned has been experimenting with different hairstyles.  In elementary school, his hair was always super neat, but this year, Middle School styles dictate some relaxing of the hair styles.  He's been figuring out how he wants it.
