South Padre Island 2022

The water and air was freezing, but the kids had to try the pool out in Fort Stockton TX on our way to SPI

In our condo this year

The weather finally warmed up so we could enjoy the view and beach.

We ventured back down to South Padre Island this year for Christmas with the Hills family.  This time we opted to drive, instead of fly as airline tickets have gone back up in price.  We actually really enjoyed the road trip and our kids did an amazing job on the entire journey.  There was no complaining.  We allowed them to have snacks in the car for the first time so that might have helped.

It just so happened that when we went down a Polar Airstream had made it's way to Texas so the first day we arrived it was 25 degrees at the beach!  Luckily it didn't stay that low for too long and the temperatures went back up to the 60's.  To me, this is still pretty chilly, but I'll take it over 20's!
We started our trip with a trip to SpaceX where we were able to see where some of those rockets are launched.  The boys thought this was pretty cool, especially Nyle.

Then we spent the remainder of the trip enjoying the beach, sand castle building, crab catching, and lots of jogs/walks along the beach.

For the journey back, we left early in the morning, around 4:30 am.   As we were driving, we were trying to decide where we wanted to stop for the night.  We kept our gas station stops brief and as we kept going we decided that we really just wanted to get home so we made the entire 22-hour drive in one day.  I was totally wiped out when we returned home, but we were all glad to be home.
